Writing this story felt important to me because there are a lot of misconceptions about asexuality and many well-intentioned people who, consequently, have no idea person to sexual things to do a to be supportive. While, on a basic level, asexuality is a lack of desire for sexual intimacy, there is actually quite a bit of variety among the asexual community. Some people are neutral to sex, some are repulsed by the idea, and some actually have an interest in sex, but only in very specific circumstances, and often only within the context of a pre-existing emotionally intimate relationship. Many people who are asexual wish the general population knew a little bit more, especially about what not to say — I certainly wish that were the case. So I reached out to the Asexuality Visibility and Education Network AVEN community about the most annoying, frustrating, or offensive responses they get when they tell people they are asexual. This is about exerting power and nonconsensual dominance over some one as a tool to attack a part of their identity. Corrective rape happens, and being threatened with it is terrifying.

  • Restricting your own or a partner's senses during sex wearing headphones, blindfold, covering parts of the body so they can't be touched. If you're in a dry spell, now is the time to just rip the bandaid off, even if the first time in a while is mediocre. It's a perfectly normal reaction to have when funny, awkward stuff happens while you're naked with another person. Someone who is asexual might not abstain from sex, but does not have the same drive for sex as most other people.
  • More From Thought Catalog. Going at it hard Handcuffs or some type of restraints. Break Out Into Downward Dog. Nothing keeps both parties in the mood faster than a great kiss.
